| The 7 Steps to a Healthy Brain - Step 7
7. Timely Medical Evaluations
It is suggested in today’s
medical climate that if at all possible you establish yourself
with a primary care physician or primary allied health care
professional that you can grow old with. You want to find
someone who will get to know you, who you can work with over
the lifespan in effort to recognize at very early stages when
disease is occurring. Maybe more importantly you want to work
with someone to prevent neurological disorders and cardiovascular
disorders from occurring in the first place. Therefore it
is very important to have regular physical checkups especially
when we’re young with a strong emphasis on prevention
as outlined in the Seven Steps to a Healthy Brain. By having
regular physical examinations and interactions with your health
care professional it is not unreasonable for people to live
a long, healthy, productive life well past 100 today. Some
basic premises are to have a physical exam in patients from
30 to 40 about once every two years, even yearly would be
better, but clearly every two years; over the age of 40 regular
examinations on a yearly basis are strongly recommended. At
certain increments other interventional studies in the form
of prevention need to take place.
As we have discussed in the Seven
Steps, if there is any concern with regard to an abnormality
in your bodily functions, especially as it relates to neurologic
function, it is imperative that you seek help early. Today’s
medical community has significant diagnostic tests that can
diagnose neurologic disorders and systemic disorders in their
very earliest stages and thus you would have the best chance
of possibly controlling these symptoms.
More specific discussions on the
prevention of various neurologic focusing on neurovascular
as well as cardiovascular issues will be addressed in future
communications.
