Commonly Asked Questions:
What
is an EEG?
The
electroencephalogram measures and records the electric
activity of the brain, much like the electrocardiogram
records the activity of the heart. Abnormalities can
be detected by studying the wave patterns recorded by a
computer. Multiple channels of data from the brain are
analyzed to evaluate brain activity. The test normally
takes about an hour. You will be asked to avoid
caffeinated beverages and stimulants on the day of your
test. Certain shampoos, products, and hair sprays
effect the electrical waves and theses, too, should be
avoided.
