Commonly Asked Questions:
Is
there something I can do without taking prescription medications
to treat my headaches?
Yes,
there are options that do not necessarily include the use
of prescription medications to treat an individual’s
headache. Please note that there are situations mostly in
the preventive regime that we utilize. It is difficult to
find effective acute therapies once a significant headache
occurs. But there are aspects of prevention that are being
looked at and some do include effective non pharmacological
approaches. One of the most effective is the use of behavior
modification, biofeedback and stress management. It has been
shown to be effective in children as young as 9 years of age
and continues to be effective throughout adult life. Also,
there is some literature that supports consideration of preventive
therapies such as magnesium, B2, and some suggestion that
CQ10 and other herbal components may actually be beneficial,
not only for healthy brain function, but also may prove beneficial
in the preventive arena. Although I must caution you the data
in this area is sparse. Please see the section on “The
7 Steps to a Healthy Brain” which expands on this
discussion.
